Offline Garden Planner & Preserving PWA

FloraHearth is a free garden planner for US home gardens. It lays out your beds, times every planting to your own frost dates, and tracks what you harvest and preserve. It runs in the browser, installs like an app, works offline and never asks for an account.

What it does

  • Plan. The Bed Designer lays out square-foot beds from a library of 137 crop guides, with companion planting and soil notes.
  • Schedule. Each bed turns into dated tasks: start seeds indoors, transplant, direct sow, harvest. Re-syncing a bed updates those dates instead of adding duplicates.
  • Grow. A dashboard shows what can go in the ground this week, next to the local forecast and frost outlook.
  • Preserve. Harvests flow into a pantry log with canning, freezing, drying and pickling guidance for each crop.
  • Reflect. A photo journal and a simple return-on-investment view close out the season.

Getting the advice right

Planting windows count from your own last spring and first fall frost, not a national calendar. Forecasts come from Open-Meteo, and saved or estimated numbers are labelled as such. Canning guidance follows the USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning and the National Center for Home Food Preservation: low-acid vegetables always point to a pressure canner, and gauge pressure adjusts for altitude.

How it’s built

FloraHearth is a static Progressive Web App on GitHub Pages, with no back end, no sign-up and no analytics. Garden data stays in the browser, one button exports everything including photos to a backup file, and an optional sync service can be self-hosted on Cloudflare’s free tier.

It targets WCAG 2.2 AA. An automated audit of 132 views in light and dark themes found no violations, and on a phone-sized screen with a 4× slowed processor the largest content appears in 0.60 seconds.
