Calls + roadmapping
Strategy and technical advisory is senior technical judgment by the hour: architecture planning, tech stack decisions, vendor evaluation, project scoping and AI roadmaps. It’s $165 an hour, with a 1-hour minimum, usually as calls plus a written roadmap. I work in person around Worcester County, Boston and New England, and remotely for anyone else.
Who it’s for
- Founders and managers making a technical decision they’ll live with for years
- Teams choosing between vendors, platforms or agencies
- Businesses that need a project scoped before asking for quotes
- Organizations planning how AI fits into their systems
What we can work on
- Architecture planning: how your systems should fit together, and what to build first
- Tech stack decisions: WordPress or custom, which frameworks, which hosting
- Vendor evaluation: a second opinion on proposals, quotes and products
- Project scoping: turning an idea into a clear scope developers can price
- AI roadmaps: where AI fits, what it costs and what to avoid
How it works
- Book a call and tell me the decision you’re facing.
- We work through it on calls, as many or as few as it needs.
- I write up the recommendation or roadmap when that’s useful.
With more than 25 years of building and running software, I can usually tell you quickly whether a plan holds up, and what it will really take.
How hourly work is billed: invoiced every two weeks, or at the end for engagements under 10 hours. Prepaying for 20 or more hours takes 10% off the rate, and those hours stay valid for 90 days.

Some problems need a custom application rather than a website: a booking tool, a staff training app, an internal dashboard or a product of your own. I build those with React, Node.js and PHP, billed at $125 an hour with a two-hour minimum. I’m based in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, and work with clients across New England and remotely.
What I build
- React front ends, written in TypeScript
- Node.js and Express back ends and REST APIs
- Integrations with the third-party services you already use
- Progressive Web Apps that install on a phone and keep working offline
- Static-first apps on GitHub Pages and Cloudflare Workers, so hosting stays cheap and there is less to break
- Internal tools and dashboards for staff who aren’t technical
How I hold the work to a standard
I check quality with tests rather than by eye. Accessibility is tested against WCAG 2.2 AA, layouts are checked on small screens and at large text sizes, and speed is measured on a phone with a slowed-down processor, so you get before-and-after numbers instead of impressions. Where an app depends on outside data, it says so when that data is stale or missing instead of pretending to be live.
How it works
- Free 30-minute call. We talk through what you need and whether I’m the right fit.
- Written proposal. You get the scope, price and timeline in writing within 3 business days.
- Start. Work usually starts within 1 to 2 weeks of signing. Project work takes a 50% deposit, with the rest due on delivery.
- Delivery and support. You get the finished work, documentation of what changed, and the support period listed for your package.
Built this way
- Wine Pairing Menu Guide: an offline-first React PWA that about 25 restaurant staff use to learn 60+ dishes and roughly 150 wines
- SIEM/SOC dashboard: a Node.js and MySQL dashboard watching 40 sites
- Babylon.js survival game and FloraHearth, built for the browser
What it costs
Full-stack development is $125 an hour with a 2-hour minimum. Prepaying for 20 or more hours takes 10% off, and those hours stay valid for 90 days. For WordPress builds, the fixed-price packages start with Business Site at $3,500.

Search-ready from the start
If your custom build is public-facing, pair it with a Technical SEO Audit or Schema & AEO Markup so search engines and AI tools can understand it. See SEO and AI search optimization for how I approach it.

Common questions
How much does technical advisory cost?
$165 an hour, with a 1-hour minimum.
Can you review a proposal from another developer?
Yes. Reviewing proposals, quotes and products is part of vendor evaluation.
Do I have to hire you for the build afterward?
No. The advice is yours to use with whoever you choose.
Hourly or fixed price?
Most custom development is billed hourly, with hours tracked and reported. When the scope is well defined, ask for a fixed quote; fixed-fee work always starts with a signed scope document.
Can you build a mobile app?
Yes, as a Progressive Web App: it installs from the browser onto a phone’s home screen, works offline, and doesn’t need an app store.
Do you meet in person?
Yes. For clients in Greater Boston and the Worcester area, discovery sessions and kickoff meetings can be in person, and there is no travel surcharge within 50 miles of Shrewsbury. Ongoing work is usually remote.
How much does full-stack development cost?
$125 an hour, with a 2-hour minimum.
How is hourly work billed?
Invoices go out every two weeks, or at the end for engagements under 10 hours. Prepaying for 20 or more hours takes 10% off the rate, and those hours stay valid for 90 days.
Do you only work in WordPress?
No. I build React front ends, Node.js back ends, REST APIs and installable web apps, as well as WordPress.
Can you build an app that works offline?
Yes. The Wine Pairing Menu Guide is one: an installable web app that works without a connection and updates itself when a new version ships.
